Second Annual Food Writers at the Mike on Wednesday, March 19th at 7:30pm in Coral Gables. Marcel Escoffier, Linda Gassenheimer, Ana Quincoces and Helen Willinsky, with moderator Nancy Ancrum, will share their personal reflections on food writing, its significance and its special artistry. The conversation will continue over an elegant dessert buffet and book signing with the authors in the Aragon Room of the Biltmore. Tickets are $45 and include both the premiere writers event and the dessert reception. Desserts are being donated by some of South Florida’s most prominent confectioners, including Catering by Maribel, Chocolate Fashion, Northern Trust’s cookie guru, Theine Tea Salon, Whisk Gourmet Foods & Catering and several of Slow Food Miami’s excellent individual bakers and chefs. Proceeds benefit Slow Food Miami’s extensive educational programs.
THE STRIP HOUSE OPENS AT THE REACH RESORT IN KEY WEST

The Glazier Group, a family owned and run business owned by restaurateurs Peter, Penny and Mathew Glazier has opened the latest Strip House at the newly renovated Reach Resort in Key West. The first Strip House, a New York steakhouse, opened in 2000 and was named Best Steakhouse in America by GQ, and one of America’s Ten Best Steakhouses by Maxim Magazine.
The kitchen is overseen by Executive Chef John Schenk. Dinner is served nightly from 5:00 pm until 11:00 pm, and will also serve in-room dining, catering and poolside menus at The Reach Resort.

BLU PIZZA E CUCINA OPENS IN MARY BRICKELL VILLAGE

The new 175-seats indoor/outdoor Blu Pizza e Cucina at Mary Brickell Village, a restaurant with a full bar, a brick oven and a 12-seat pizza bar, “just like in Italy” is Blu Restaurants Group’s third restaurant. The first two are the South Miami landmarks Trattoria Sole and Blu la Pizzeria del Sole, operated by Maurizio Farinelli and partners. The fourth restaurant is slated to open soon at 8915 SW 72nd Place, Miami. According to manager and partner Luca Delogu, Blu Pizza e Cucina is “a fusion of Trattoria Sole and Blu la Pizzeria del Sole – respectively at 5894 Sunset Dr. and 7201 S.W. 59 Ave. in South Miami.” Mr. Delogu who is from Rome, Italy, explained: “We’re taking the best of the two menus and we are adding some unique Italian recipes and a great list of wines.”

Level 25 offer new “Wine Down Wednesdays” where wine lovers can experience weekly featured wine specials for just $5 per glass every Wednesday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Oenophiles in attendance can also try their luck with Level 25’s dice game. Every half hour, the opportunity to roll the dice will be offered at the bar and cocktail tables; those who roll a 2 and 5 (in honor of Level 25) will receive a complimentary glass of wine.
For those who are interested in learning more about wine in a fun, relaxing environment, Level 25’s The Wine Attic, an intimate private wine tasting room accessible through the Conrad Miami’s signature restaurant, Atrio, offers a unique opportunity to sip fine vintages with friends, guided by the hotel’s sommelier, Nicole Rudnick.
